Privacy policy

Last updated November 1, 2026

In short: we use what you share to review your application, plan events and run the community. We don't sell your information, and we don't share it for sales outreach without your separate permission.

This policy covers theseller.org, the membership application, the chapter request form, our events, and our members-only community site and chat. The Seller is organized by The Seller Community Group ("we", "us"). Questions go to hello@theseller.org.

What we collect

  • When you apply: your name, email, phone number (optional), role, where you sell, annual sales range, city, your biggest challenge, what you could help other sellers with, and who referred you (optional).
  • When you request a chapter: your name, email and the city you'd like a chapter in.
  • Consent records: the date and time you agreed to this policy and, if you opted in, to sponsor updates. We also record when each form was submitted.
  • As a member: what you choose to share on the member site and in the chat, event sign-ups and attendance, and your answers to member benchmark surveys.
  • When you visit the site: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, to run and secure the site. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.

How we use it

  • To review your application and contact you about it, including a short call.
  • To plan events, decide where to open new chapters and invite you to things you're eligible for.
  • To run the member site and chat, recaps and benchmarks.
  • To keep the community safe and enforce our code of conduct.
  • To send sponsor updates, only if you ticked that box. It's never pre-ticked, and you can opt out any time.

Benchmark results are shared only in aggregate. We don't publish figures that identify you or your business.

Who can see it

  • Our membership team, the small group who review applications and run events.
  • Service providers that host the site and store form submissions (currently Netlify), the platforms that run the member site and chat, and the tools we use to email members. They process data on our behalf and can't use it for their own purposes.
  • Other members see what you post on the member site and in the chat, and your name at events you attend. They don't see your application.
  • Sponsors don't get your contact details unless you ask us for an introduction.
  • Authorities, if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context advertising.

Photos at events

We sometimes take photos at events. We'll tell you before we do, and you can ask not to be photographed. We only use photos that show you with your permission, and we'll remove one if you ask.

How long we keep it

  • Applications that aren't accepted: up to 12 months, so we can reconsider them later, then deleted.
  • Member information: while you're a member, and up to 12 months after you leave.
  • Chapter requests: until a chapter opens in that city, or up to 24 months.
  • Consent records: as long as we need to show you gave consent.

Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what information we hold about you and send you a copy;
  • correct anything that's wrong;
  • delete your information;
  • stop sponsor updates or other optional messages.

Email hello@theseller.org from the address you applied with. We'll reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights under local law, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

Submissions are sent over HTTPS and stored with our hosting provider. Only our membership team can see them. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit access and collect only what we need.

Age

The Seller is for business owners and operators aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger.

Not affiliated with Amazon, Walmart or Shopify

The Seller is not affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon, Walmart or Shopify, and we don't share your information with them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll email members before it takes effect.
