Code of conduct
Last updated November 1, 2026
In short: be useful to other sellers, keep what's shared in the room in the room, and don't sell to members.
This code applies to everyone who takes part in The Seller: members, guests, speakers, hosts, sponsors and organizers. It covers our events, member-hosted events, warehouse tours, calls, the members-only site and the chat. By applying or attending, you agree to it.
Be useful
- Share what's actually working and what isn't, including real numbers when you're comfortable.
- Ask questions. Nobody here has it all figured out.
- Give credit, and say when you're guessing.
- Show up for events you sign up for, or cancel so someone else can have the seat.
Keep it confidential
Sellers share things here they wouldn't post publicly: margins, suppliers, account problems.
- You can use what you learn, but don't say who said it or name their business outside the community.
- Don't record, screenshot or repost sessions, member-site posts or chat messages without permission from the people involved.
- Don't use what you learn here to copy another member's products or target their listings.
No pitching
- Don't sell or promote your services to members at events, on the member site, in the chat or by direct message.
- Don't use member contact details for marketing.
- If you want a recommendation for a provider, ask. If a member asks you for help, you're welcome to answer.
- Sponsors follow the same rule. They only contact members who ask for an introduction.
Stay on the right side of the rules
- Don't share or encourage tactics that break marketplace policies or the law. That includes fake or incentivized reviews, review manipulation, hijacking listings, and attacking competitors' accounts.
- Members are often competitors. Talk about strategy and experience, but don't agree with other sellers on prices, split up products or markets, or share your future pricing plans.
- Don't share anything you don't have the right to share, such as another company's confidential information.
Treat people with respect
We don't tolerate harassment or discrimination of any kind. That includes:
- offensive comments about gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, age, disability or appearance;
- unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention;
- intimidation, stalking or following someone;
- photographing someone who has asked not to be photographed;
- disrupting sessions or talking over people repeatedly.
Some events serve drinks. Drink responsibly. Being drunk doesn't excuse breaking this code.
Guests
Members can bring one fellow seller to most events. You're responsible for making sure your guest knows this code and follows it.
Raising a concern
If something makes you uncomfortable, or you see someone breaking this code, tell an organizer at the event or email hello@theseller.org. You can raise it anonymously. We'll treat it confidentially, look into it promptly and tell you what we did, where we can. We won't tolerate retaliation against anyone who reports in good faith.
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911 first.
What happens if the code is broken
Depending on what happened, organizers may give a warning, ask someone to leave an event, remove posts, suspend access, or end a membership. Organizers decide, and serious incidents can lead to immediate removal without a warning first.
Changes
We may update this code as the community grows. We'll let members know when we make significant changes.
